Q: But Google is known to do that (change things significantly) What do you guys do, say, a year from now? What does Facebook do?
Zuck: The way I really think about this is that ultimately all of these companies ... every one of these companies wakes up in the morning trying to please its customers.
I really do believe that all of these companies ... tries to build the best experience. Google, too.
Q: Does Facebook Home put FB in more direct competition with Google?
Zuck: I actually think this is really good for Android. This is a really good, quality experience.
I think a lot of people do their best work on iPhone first ... but in a way, this can start to bring some of these high-quality experiences ... to Android. And if that happens, that's quite good for Android.
Q: Is there pressure to monetize?
Zuck (laughing): Oh, yeah. That.
Zuck: there are no ads on this yet. I'm sure at some point there will be.
Q: Will Facebook Home support typical Android widgets and folders? Can you disable chat heads?
A: Tons of settings. You can have it be a lockscreen or a homescreen .Or both. Keyguards.
Or you can choose to not use it as a lockscreen.
No folders or widgets at launch.
Q: You listed your partners as carriers and OEMS. But what about other developers? Will you ever allow other social networks to add into Facebook Home?
Zuck: More important to get the most content people share -- FB status updates and photos -- and our judgment was that it was the right thing to focus on for V1.
Q: Asking for clarifications on who can get FB Home on their phones.
The good news about it being on Google Play is that we dont' have to go through approval processes. Just hotfix and update.
Reapeated Q: What's the differrence between the preinstall vs. downloaded version.
The Facebook Phone has better notification integration.
We're going to try to work with OEMs going forward to try to expose more hooks.
Q: How dependent is Home on the Android OS update schedule?
And how will other carriers slow you down with this? (VZW, especially)
A: Because it comes from Google Play, you don't have to wait. With new versions, we'll have to decide if we incorporate those new features in updates.
And that's it ...
End of the Q&A.
Now we're off to the demo lounge. See y'all!
